HI from Yakima Washington!
So my mission as always is unexpected, I think Heavenly Father does it just solely so he can see my facial expressions because every time I get more news my face does a new expression that I didn't even know I could do. So other than my new area, and mission, I have 2 new companions! Sister Farnes is from Joseph City Arizona and came from the MTC the same day as me... all though she was there for 2 weeks less since she wasn't waiting on a visa. My trainer... get ready for this is SISTER ALISON BRAND from Bountiful! She didn't even finish her own training before she started training 2 new sisters... it's because she's completly celestial... sometimes at night I worry that she is going to be translated in her sleep and me and sister farnes will have to try and figure out navigating yakima by oursleves... not to mention President probably wouldn't be too happy that we left our companion. I think Heavenly Father really wants me to learn something from all of these wonderful people from Bountiuful. Sister Ensign and I are both serving in the Yakima area. We cover the 4th and 5th wards, and She and Sister Atkinson (another visa waiter) are being trained in the Moxie and Terrace Heights wards.
So other big news... We got here on Wednesday and we found out that there were 2 BAPTISMS scheduled for Saturday afternoon! Shelia and her 31 year old daughter Robin were found because Sister Brand and Sister Clegg tracted into them on 3 weeks before I got here! They were so golden. They kept all their commitments, they had no problem going to church, they have read all the way into Alma 36 since being given the Book of Mormon. THEY ARE AMAZING! Their baptism went perfectly! Both of them are on disability, and have pretty serious health problems so we had to have 2 priesthood holders in the font with them. Brother Wood (aka Marc Mason... but really he looks like a blonde Marc... and he has the same sense of humor... it kinda weirds me out!) is our ward mission leader in the 5th ward. He's awesome! and He baptized both of them. On Sunday Bishop Black (who we live in his basement btw) confirmed them. I don't think either of them have stopped smiling since I met them.
I LOVE this work. It's been more... unexpected? I think. But I'm starting to settle in. I have this internal confliction now that I'm here about wheather or not I actually want to go to Australia. People here are SO nice, and so humble. We tract about a million triailer parks... and very few people have teeth here, but they have big hearts and a strong relationship with our Heavenly Father. On Saturday Night after the baptism we were trying our potentials and we found Larry and Lannette a retired couple that live in the same apartment complex as Robin and Sheila. Both of them have been really religious in their lives, Larry served in Vietnam and they both have a pretty complicated background. One thing they told us was that they only got through everything that they have because they did what God wanted them to do. Larry has a pretty similar story to dad..... and I was touched as this man told us about how he knew that it's not about what religion you are but how close you are to God and how excited he was to read the Book of Mormon and be able to find out more about the Savior. He started reading it while we were still there talking. We are really praying that Heavenly Father will be able to prepare them and they will accept the restored gospel, we are going to teach them tomorrow night!
I love all of you! and I am so grateful for your continued support. One thing that I KNOW would be so helpful is to do whatever you can to find missionary work wherever you are. I know that in Bountiful it seems like you aren't needed but 2 of our neighbors are inactive. Dad I've been thinking a lot about you this week as I've been working with the ward mission leaders. You did SO much when we were in Hibbing!!! All of you this week will you come together as a family and pray and ask Heavenly Father to help you with a plan to help those around you come unto Christ? Get everybody in the neighborhood to ALL their meetings this week! I know that if you ask Heavenly Father for his help he will do it! The missionaries need the ward members so BAD! I feel terrible for all the times I was annoyed that the missionarires kept asking me if I had friends that needed the gospel! HELP THE MISSIONARIES PLEASE!!! :) I love you all so much!
