australia

since getting my mission call it's been fun to see people's reactions to where i'm going. sometimes people like to give me really good advice make me feel exceedingly awkie by saying "oh you better fill your canteen before you go to the desert" i feel like it's right of passage that every pre-missionary must go through or something.... any way moving on from the awkwardness i really am going to a real live desert! like not just a metaphorical dating desert but like a real desert! it's soooooo cool!

the perth mission is actually the whole western half of australia...the mission is so big that it can fit all of texas (not that is really much of an accomplishment), all of england AND scotland, and all of japan in it and still have room..... that's a lot of land mass......

 any way some other cool things that i have learned about australia....

the northwest part of my mission is home to the "kimberly" which is where they shot the movie australia with nicole kidman and hugh jackman which is an nice short movie that i tried watching years ago and got bored with, but maybe i'll try it again now that i have more of a personal connection with it? also there are 2 seasons there... wet and dry.  the wet season is from april to november and it's dry the rest of the time.

in addition to kola bears, platypus, and kangaroos, there are these cute little animals called quokka that inhabit the area surrounding perth....

 

also there are camels in australia...

perth has some of the best beaches on the continent and you can swim with wale sharks! ... not that i'll be doing that... but STILL it's pretty cool

any way australia is just pretty cool. i have a temple in my mission (i might not be as close to it as i am here at home though remember the whole landmass thing) and there are tons of beautiful national parks and so much VEGEMITE!!! (excuse the spelling on that one)

 

 

oh one more thing! i am just so excited for all of my friends who are also serving missions.  just a little shout out to cute little lexi Tiki Patterson on her call to costa rica, my adorable roomie lindsey on her call to calgary canada, annnnnnndddddd

 THIS girl on her call to the germany frankfurt mission! i just love all of this mission stuff it's great!
