once upon a time i was a senior in high school. it was the biggest rivalry game of the year bountiful vs. woods cross. as a senior naturally you stand at the front of the bleachers leading the entire school in supportive cheers and for some reason starting mosh pits.... weird. bountiful hadn't been beat by woods cross in over 20 years, but this was a close game.... overtime.... and with 20 seconds left on the clock it was too close for my taste. especially since i had bet jon beach that if we lost i would kiss him... ewwwww! i really really REALLY did not want to kiss jon beach, and i had managed to avoid it all junior year i wasn't about to start now that i was a big bad senior. naturally i started FREAKING out... and i grabbed onto the first arm that i felt screaming "I CAN'T KISS JON BEACH!!!!" that arm just happened to be sydney dietrich. this tall, super cool, popular girl, and i had never really talked before all though we were often at the same social events and had mutual friends. naturally sydney started consoling me because lets be honest who would want to kiss jon beach? after that me and sydney's friendship exploded like a two liter of diet coke opened after rolling it down mill street.

syd and i spent every day together, drinking diet coke, scouting out the vard, doing our psychology homework, and eating spankeys, paces, mcdonalds, 5 guys, chipolte, cafe rio, you get the gist right?

we would do stupid things like put golf course flags in people's yards, and drink energy drinks (we hate those btw), and we loved our lady gaga and ke$ha. i think our friendship was truly solidified when one night i admitted to my latest obsession.... supernatural! we watched a couple of episodes and all of a sudden the vard wasn't as appealing as a diet coke, nail polish, a good episode of supernatural, and a game of nertz.... if we can survive playing nertz and we are still friends nothing will ever tear us apart
one afternoon we decided to really live on the edge and give blood.... let me tell you it was one of the most ridiculous experiences of my life.... and i don't even remember it. but i do remember later that night sitting on my bed with syd and a diet coke watching supernatural.
halloween came around and me and sydney spent 3 hours sitting in my drive way talking about all things boy, celine, and shania. it's not often that somebody just gets you but for some reason me and syd did, it felt like we had been best friends forever. i told syd about how my ex-boyfriend told me that i had delicious lips and an irresistible body (gross right... i thought so too).... and for some reason that became our catch phrase that year. that night ended with us blasting shania twain's any man of mine, which honestly became our theme song! when college applications came along we were convinced that we were going to be room mates and share boots and blast any man of mine first thing when we moved in.

that year went by and almost every dance we were in the same group. dances were the best with us we literally would dance until we knew that the next day we would feel hung over. and our after activities were almost ALWAYS at syd's house.

the great thing about me and syd's friendship is we did/do what we wanted and we didn't care what anybody else thought of us. we wore our pajama's to school, we wore our hair on top of our heads, and we drank diet coke like it was as vital to the air we were breathing in.

even though we both knew that we were going to different school in the fall we still spent as much time together as possible. graduation showed that syd really did have a heart and actually knew how to cry! we were so proud of her ;)

that summer after graduation proved how strong me and syd's relationship was. we were trek sisters, and i think that is when syd and i realized how strong we were together, and how much good we could do for others if we worked together. pulling abby up the hill was hard, but it was the best thing that we could have done, it wasn't for us it was for HER! and then we had retreat for girls where we literally used every ounce of strength with in us to love and care for 12 girls under the age of 16.

it's been 3 years since that football game. and sydney is turning 21 tody! we have been through so much together, good and bad. we can have the most immature conversations and then 3 seconds later be talking about the deepest of subjects. syd is an example to me, and she cheers me on regardless of what it'll mean for her. she's the best sister, daughter, and friend! i'm so glad that i made that bet with jon beach because if i hadn't who know where we would be now. truly there are people that come into your life and make it better than it ever could have been before.
