fist bump

when I got back from my mission I debated if I was going to keep blogging or not.  I certainly don't want this to be one of the million other blogs that returning sister missionaries write to just reminisce about their missions .... but I can't promise that I won't throw in mission stories.... because lets be honest while everybody was here getting married and falling in love, I wasn't haha so I have nothing to contribute to those conversations.... yet ;)

any way something that's been on my mind a lot since getting home is fear. oh man i learned so much about fear the past while. some days i'd just wake up and i was afraid to even have to start the day.  I realized  though that fear is just a way that Satan tries to control and stop us (yes here comes the rm in me).

so what is fear? whenever I try to define it these are the words that come to my mind: school, future, rejection, contention, inadequacy.... ok so it's not the Webster's definition... it's actually what I'm afraid of.... things that sometimes control me.

last night at institute we were studying 2 nephi 2 and specifically talking about how we are here on earth to act and not be acted upon. The only thing that can and will act upon us is the law of justice. SO WHY DO I LET MY FEARS ACT ON ME!?

my second and third transfer on my mission i started every morning by vomitting because I was so anxious! (sorry gross mental image there... and no i was bulimic.... clearly..... since i gained 20lbs) those fears were controlling me.  what helped?? well at the time the mission was reading the book of mormon and highlighting every verse that referenced Jesus Christ. it was the atonement. learning about Christ. The answer to all of life's problems is to love Christ more.

I love this video by elder scott about fear vs. faith in Christ it's exactly what I had to do to be able to be ok during that really terrifying time.

great news! overcoming fears can be done, partner up with the savior! trust god! he wants us to succeeded!

Au Revoir

well the time has FINALLY come! tomorrow i will be set apart as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints so. excited. when i started this blog it was just for myself to use as an outlet to record what makes me happy.  i figure since this is my last post as not a missionary i'll talk about what makes me happiest!

people make me happy... their quirks... their personalities... being friends with them.  people are the most important.

as i am leaving this is what is hardest to leave behind... the people.  i'm not afraid of not having a phone, or not seeing the next episode of psych, but i am sad to be leaving my people, and when i come home i know i will be sad to leave the people of australia.

right now in the living room ellen is bouncing up and down, quinici is talking about how she is going to write me only in poems describing her depression with out me, emma is reading (like always), and i just know that this church is true and it's the most important thing anybody could learn about other wise i would never leave my people.

so parting words of wisdom... be nice to each other, always give people another chance, laugh more than you cry, but when you cry be grateful because nothing stays bad, eat chocolate... LOTS of chocolate, and never sit out when you can join in.

au revoir my people! the next post will be from the field! <3 <3 <3

ps here is my mtc address and i'll be there till march 25th.

people can change

woah! it's been such a long time since i have posted.  sorry! i've been working just as hard as i can to earn enough money to help with my mission (only 39 more days.... GAH)

the whole point of my blog is to talk about what happiness is.  for me that is deeply rooted in family, friends, school, but especially my religion.  happiness is more than a feeling, it's a state of being.  it's a way of life.  i'll be honest i do not necessarily feel happy all the time (all though i wish i did) some days are really really hard and i just want to crawl up in my quilt and watch a movie and forget the whole think.  but everyday i have the chance to live happiness.  i can drink in each moment the good and the bad ones and watch as they make me who i am going to be.

recently a few of my good friends from high school have gone into the mtc, at the same time others have returned home from their missions.  in every single case i have said one thing after they have walked away "wow they have changed".   isn't that a wonderful thing! we are not a finished product and we do NOT have to stay the way we are now or were when we were juniors in high school or freshman in college.  we can become who we want to become.

i feel like i want to scream it from the mountain tops! WE CAN CHANGE!

when i was in high school i felt like i was pretty comfortable with who i was.  i definitely didn't struggle with self esteem issues as much as others did.  when i went to college i had the chance to redefine myself and decide who i wanted to become.  i was pretty happy with the high school version of kalli.  after all she had a boy friend, she liked her hair, she was active, she did fun things, her family had a nice house, she had tons of girl friends, and she really didn't see any bad in most people. i really didn't see the point in redefining myself, but life had a different idea for me.  now that i'm a junior in college, getting ready to go on a mission, and in a completely different state of mind than i have ever been before i can see how i have changed. it's a good change, a more mature change.

yesterday i saw my bff kylee in the mtc (i was visiting my ladies that i used to work with) it was only for about 5 minutes.  in that five minutes i could see how just 16 days had made kylee a more wise, mature, kind person.  i was so proud of her! i guess the point of my whole rant is don't allow some old impression of somebody to be your only opinion of them.  people are complex.  they are learning. and because of that they will change.  i know i have changed.  and i am still going to be changing and so is everybody else.

now that my friends is happiness
